Food Porn Friday – Quick Summer Treats

(Image via fortmeademom.typepad.com)

Welcome to a hot and sweaty Food Porn Friday! Today’s treats are quick and easy and one treat only has one ingredient.

It’s hot! You don’t want to think about using the oven! Actually, you really don’t want to even think too much. But you would love some sort of treat. Even better, you only want one serving of the treat.

Here’s a video of a cake in a mug recipe that uses one of the most popular versions of the recipe on the internet.

I also saw this “recipe” for microwave cakes in the comments section for one of the cake in a mug recipes I found. It doesn’t say how many watts the microwave has that she uses, so some *ahem* experimentation may be necessary.

For a quicker option, just mix 1 box of angel food cake mix together with 1 box of cake mix of your choice (strawberry is good, or devil’s food works for a good vs evil kinda thing). Store in an air-tight canister. When you you are ready to make a cup, use 1/3 cup of the mix along with 3 tbsp water. Stir and microwave for 50 seconds. Yummy!

Do you have some frozen bananas in your freezer? Do you have a food processor or blender? Would you like to try some soft-serve banana ice cream? As promised, your one ingredient treat using 4 frozen bananas. The instructions say to use a food processor but someone used a blender and it worked just fine. Check out the comments for some tips and other ways people did the recipe.

Place frozen bananas in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse several times to break into smaller pieces, then turn on and run for about five minutes, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides of the bowl. The bananas will start to resemble soft serve in a few minutes. Transfer to a bowl and place in freezer for about 15 minutes, if you’d like, or serve immediately.

Of course, there’s always the no-cook recipes as long as you have the important ingredients on hand. Like ice cream and cookies. Get a spoon or ice cream scoop and this ice cream and cookie sandwich could be yours.

  1. OK, I thought we were trying to lose weight…Yes, I say this as I’m eating chocolate ice cream…. every day since my procedure. Amazingly, I haven’t gained any weight…but I’m not losing either.

I like the banana trick. I like to just dip my bananas in chocolate syrup. (and I can have 1/2 of a banana, or a very small one. even with my fructose problems…yay!)

I had a dream last night that I was losing weight by eating shaved ice. I was still eating food, just not as much, I was just munching away on shaved ice….wonder if it was trying to tell me something? Or perhaps I was just hot?

    1. No kidding! Due to the really hot and humid weather this week giving me the gift of swelling, I’ve gone up and down in a ten pound range. It hasn’t gone back down to what I was last week and I have no idea what I truly weigh anymore. Of course, I could also start tracking my food and doing exercises consistantly like I said I would. Although, I have been drinking my water.

My treat had been going for a walk to the convenience store and buying a big ice cream sandwich, made with 2 big chocolate chip cookies, a couple of times this week. Along with a couple of chocolate bars which, I’m sure, are always part of a nutritious health food plan.

I don’t know about the shaved ice, though. Maybe it’s a hot weather version of popped corn. Or water. Chug-a-lug that water. lol!
