Self-Love Sunday: Fall In Love With Yourself First

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Do you love yourself? Have you ever fallen in love with yourself? Or, if being honest, have you thought about falling in love with yourself?

There is the common phrase that to love others we must love ourselves first. But, life is busy for many of us, sometimes overwhelming. And we are putting every one and every thing else first.

It’s time to put yourself first.

Leo Babauta from Zen Habits has written an article about falling in love with yourself where he shares his thoughts in three areas: What is Falling in Love, How to Start and An Ongoing Romance.

He talks in generalized examples about what happens when we fall in love,


  • We meet someone interesting.
  • We get to know them.
  • We appreciate the little things.
  • We start to trust.
  • We get love from them, and return it.

and he then takes you through each of the actions and talks about how to apply each one to falling in love with yourself.

Kassy Scarcia, a life and career empowerment coach, has an article on Huffington Post where she talks about 7 Ways to Fall in Love With Yourself. Her 7 tips are:

  • Make a List of 10 Things You Love About Yourself Everyday
  • Take It a Step Further and Read Your List In Front of a Mirror Each Day
  • Practice Saying No
  • Ask 5 People in Your Life What They Love About You
  • Give Yourself an Act of Self-Love Each Day
  • Make a Self-Love Vision Board
  • Declare Yourself A No Self-Judgment Zone

I hope these two articles give you some ideas about falling in love with yourself and that you are able to spend this Valentine’s Day how you choose.



NHBPM – Go With The Flow Class – A.K.A. Today Is CATURDAY!

The prompt for today is teach a class and today the lesson is “go with the flow”. I was originally going to do a Caturday post because, like so many people, I think “what can I teach”? Nah, it will be a post of cats. You guys LOVE your funny cats. But, I thought about it and decided to go with the flow and combine a quick lesson (or two) and cats into one post.

I love finding an article or post that I can share. (That’s lesson number two – when you are not a writer but have a blog and write, find things to share that others may enjoy or learn from.) I am going to offer a link to someone who can explain how to go with the flow better than I can. Then, I will have my original “go with the flow” moment.

But, how do we define go with the flow? The Online Slang Dictionary defines it as “to not resist what happens naturally”. Cambridge Dictionaries Online defines it as “to do what other people are doing or to agree with other people because it is the easiest thing to do”. My definition is “life happens, do your best to reduce stress, take care of yourself, enjoy the good times”.

I have found a post about going with the flow that I hope will help you. Leo Babauta has a blog called Zen Habits, which is a blog about “finding simplicity in the daily chaos of our lives”. He believes that going with the flow is the following:

It’s rolling with the punches. It’s accepting change without getting angry or frustrated. It’s taking what life gives you, rather than trying to mold life to be exactly as you want it to be.

I mentioned earlier that I was going to have a “go with the flow” moment, and here it is. The last few days, the number one search has been cats and my post on Funny Cats and Dogs has been either the most viewed post or the second most viewed post. Since this is being published on a Saturday, I decided to give the people what they want. The rest of the post is dedicated to Caturday and our fine, feline friends!

Is Your Glass Half Full Or Half Empty

I saw the phrase recently and decided to see what our friends on the internet had to say.  For the most part it was:

The optimist says the glass is half full.

The pessimist says the glass is half empty.

Does it really matter?  Why can’t a half empty glass be just as good as a half full glass?  Why does it have to be optimist vs. pessimist?  I understand it’s a philosophical debate, but why does it have to be so black or white, one or the other, half or whole?  That’s not the way life is.  Life can be so many things.  Wonderful, intimidating, fulfilling, scary, loving, adventurous, soothing.

I believe that the glass represents the balancing act that is us and our lives.  We are constantly emptying and refilling the glass.  Some days we do a good job in making sure our needs and our lives are more or less balanced , other times life is pretty frazzled.

However, the glass does not need to be refilled at one point and one point only.  That would be a life constantly interrupted and on edge waiting for that moment to arrive.  Or, knowing that you only have a limited time until you have to stop and refill,  it could be a stifled and boring life.

Since life is nothing if not an ongoing balancing act, we have to find a balance act that works for each of us.
